Passport for mac won't eject

I also like Craig3’s solution of turning off write caching, though I have not tried it yer. After the job is done, the WD is safely removed from the Mac. Further, transfer of files to-and-from the WD My Passport is made possible when the drive is successfully mounted on the Mac computer. It seems to have disappeared from WD software. A stable WD My Passport is readily available on the Desktop, Finder, and Disk Utility when the drive gets plugged into Mac’s USB port. If i just unplug it then it loses the partition. Message says that a program is still using it. Now it wont safely eject/cant be stopped (using either WD software or Windows Explore). I also wonder what happened to the WD utility that I used to have (on a previous PC) that would re-lock and allow removal of the drive safely. My ITB WD My passport worked fine for a few weeks. I think that’s what the WD Erase utility does. But maybe all I need to do to erase them is reformat them. I have already erased this yellow drive and relocked it using the new WD Security program. You need WD Utilities to do that, I think. This is a concern because of the problem with the security holes in WD’s hardware encryption that have been widely reported and discussed in this forum.Ī partial fix (supposedly) from WD for the security issue is to use a new version of the Security (lock drive) program after first erasing the drive. What you lose with not having WD Utils is the Erase function.

Uninstalling the WD Utilities worked perfectly for me with a WD Yellow 2Tb drive.
